A bucket o chicken from the world’s first KFC ha A bucket o chicken from the world’s first KFC has been on our Utah Bucket List for quite some time.

Today we stopped by, just for the nostalgia of it. 3890 S State St in SLC.

Unfortunately, their lobby is closed, but it was fun to snag a quick selfie with Colonel Sanders.

Why is the world’s first KFC in Utah and not Kentucky? We checked on that. Apparently, the Colonel did start a chicken roadside stand in KY and perfected the recipe. But he started the first franchise in SLC in 1952 with Pete Harman, both represented on the statue if you scroll to the second pic.

We’ll return when the lobby is open. Apparently, there’s a few memorabilia on display.

As far as the food goes, it’s typical KFC. We didn’t see anything different on the menu.

Have you been?

Choose from plain to fancy; Kris, the owner, makes them all. For now, the lobby is closed, but you can just pull up to the drive-thru and they’ll give you a two-page menu. Add your choice of three layers, including glazes, icings, cereal, crushed cookies—the works!

Mountain Donuts takes your order and makes a custom donut just for you. Or choose from favorite combinations, also on the menu, and order up a special.

Mine had peanut butter, white chocolate, PB cups crunched on it. Heavenly!

We literally drove over, picked up, came home, ate, and posted. 🍩

Custom donuts are $2 each, but price varies according to what you pick.

Baby animal cuteness is for sure in Wellsville at Baby animal cuteness is for sure in Wellsville at @americanwesthc. Have you ever been? It’s up near Logan, just south of it.

This is the first weekend to show off the babies, and there are special exhibits of exotic animals, thru Apr 3.

Next weekend, Apr 7-10, the baby animals will still be available, along with baby bears from a park near Yellowstone.

Hours: 10 am to 6 pm

$9 ages 3 and up.

Your admission includes access to all the baby animals. You’ll see from our pics here that we were permitted to enter pens and pet the animals. Attendants at the various animal pens tell you what’s allowed. We loved that this experience is sooooo interactive. You are up close, snuggling. Animals are closely monitored and given breaks as needed.

We interacted with camels, turtles, all the baby farm animals, a baby alpaca, and so much more. To see but not touch were the exotic animals: wallaby, kikajou, snakes, tarantula, etc.

Included with admission are the pony and train rides. There are also food vendors: bbq, Costa Vida, jumbo corn dogs, cotton candy, draft sodas, mini donuts, kettle corn, and more.

Many of the center’s out buildings were open, giving you a glimpse of pioneer life and how things were made then.

Look for gold panning down in the hollow. It’s a fun activity.

This experience is stroller, wheelchair, and walker friendly. Lots of parents brought kid wagons. Great idea! For older guests, please note that shaded seating is not readily available.

Plan to spend 3-4 hours to see everything. Wear comfortable walking shoes. There are picnic tables in full sun. Wear shade hats and sunglasses. Bring out the sunscreen.

Facemasks 😷 are required but many people pulled them down once they were past admissions. So just be aware of this if you’re concerned about face masks off.

Come and enjoy this very fun activity. Take your time. This event shouldn’t be rushed. Lots of people attended opening day, so expect some lines and waiting while you are there.

Any questions?
@thisistheplaceheritagepark is open again! We had @thisistheplaceheritagepark is open again! We had a great time watching the blacksmith and tinsmith making their wares. You can even buy some of them for souvenirs, which we did.

Then we panned for gold, ate Brigham’s fresh, homemade donuts. They’re piping hot right out of the fryer.

We visited all the animals and rode the ponies. It was fun to see the baby chicks, bunnies, and kids. The train is operating and available for rides, too.

Come and enjoy learning about the pioneer children. There’s a new museum and statuary throughout the park honoring the 600+ children who died along the trail from Nebraska to Utah.

Mondays thru Saturdays. 10 am to 5 pm. Closed Sundays

Adults: $14.95
65+ $13.95
3-11 $10.95
2 and under free

Bigfoot exists ... in Farmington! We visited him t Bigfoot exists ... in Farmington! We visited him today. The kids didn’t have school, and we needed a little outing because the weather was overcast, and we weren’t sure about the rain.

We’d seen this little jaunt on @saltproject.co and @utahsadventurefamily so we decided to give it a go. We live close by, and now we know where it is, I’m sure we’ll visit again.

Just GPS to find Farmington Pond, which you can visit before or after Bigfoot. The parking area to see the statue is just north of the pond. We show you in the pics here where to park. You’ll see a little trail headed up the incline and will soon see a black metal bridge. The path is paved until the bridge.

Cross the bridge and keep going up. You’ll spot him soon. There are trees to climb along the way, and the foliage would be excellent for hide and seek in the summer.

You can’t miss Bigfoot. He’s easy to spot and easy to get to. The last part is an easy incline but not stroller or wheelchair friendly.

A sign at the statue asks guests to please not lean on Bigfoot when taking pictures. Also, please be respectful and not trespass on the private property which is right there.

Anyway, we thought this was a fun, quick way to get some wiggles out. There are other trails nearby, and we plan to go back and see the Indian Princess grave that’s farther up the mountain.

One important tip: If you GPS Farmington Bigfoot, you’ll end up in the subdivision on the wrong side of where you want to be. There’s no access. Instead, make sure you go to the upper parking lot north of Farmington Pond.

This is a perfect little walk to do between General Conference sessions if you need to stretch your legs.

Any questions? Have you been? What did you think?

We're fans of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series! And We're fans of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series! And Jeff Kinney is the nicest author. When our oldest was getting his Eagle Scout, we did a book boutique for the Road Home Shelter. We gathered and sorted hundreds of books to give away to anyone there who wanted them. In doing so, we also reached out to Jeff Kinney through his website and asked if he wanted to donate anything, since he's our favorite author. We didn't expect a thing. But he surprised us with a case of books, a few of them even signed! We were thrilled and so were the children at the shelter. We had enough of his books to give one to every family there.⠀
⠀
This past Sunday we had a brief chance to meet Jeff Kinney here in Utah. He's been busy with a social-distanced activity to share his latest book. The event was hosted by The King's English bookstore. We receive their enewsletter and signed up for the event right away. The next day, I was going to post it for all of you--but it was SOLD OUT!⠀
⠀
So I wanted to give you a heads up about The King's English. If you like author events, they are the best bookstore here. Their options are fabulous. Not all authors featured are family friendly, but I often see them hosting events for children's authors. So if you're interested, I recommend you get on their email list. The good events sell out fast!⠀

Today we visited @truplayut in Layton. This cute, Today we visited @truplayut in Layton. This cute, indoor playground is for ages 6 and under.

It has a gated play area for children at least 9 months. We liked that it was a little separate from play areas for bigger kids, but it was still in the same room so you could see everyone.

There’s a kitchenette so you can heat up food or snacks if you choose to bring them. Just eat them in that area.

The Mother’s Lounge is nice and private for nursing and diaper changing.

I borrowed my cute neighbor buddies to help me show you this experience. Both girls are age 3. TRU Play says it’s for ages 6 and under, but my friend mom and I both felt it was more for ages 4 and under. It is nice, though, if you need to bring a slightly older sibling along.

Price is $6 per child 9 months to age 6. Adults are free. Socks are required for everyone. 😷Adults must wear face masks, but they are optional for the kids.

Appointments are necessary as a limited number can attend each block of play time. Everything is sanitized in between play sessions.

Monthly memberships and passes are available.

It’s a great, inexpensive way for moms to get together with the littles for a nice time.

Thanks so much for letting us come! @truplayut

Address: 70 S Fairfield Rd, East Layton. 801-888-0193

Hours: M-F 9:30 am to 7 pm, Sat 8 am to 8 pm. Closed Sundays.
Have you ever hunted for antler sheds? Every year Have you ever hunted for antler sheds? Every year our family enjoys searching them. We have access to private property, and it’s like a fun treasure hunt to search for antlers or horns.⠀
⠀
Every late winter, early spring, deer, elk, and moose shed their antlers and palms. They rub them off or they simply drop off, which gives all of us a chance to find them. How do you do it? Simply go on a hike on public land and search. Sometimes we find antlers, sometimes we don’t. But it’s an excellent way to get some exercise outdoors and see some amazing things in nature.⠀
⠀
To participate, you first need to take a 25-question online quiz to obtain a free certificate. You must complete this and carry it with you as you hike. Simply search antler shedding in Utah to find the wildlife.utah .gov website. ⠀
⠀
You can also search online to find public property if you don’t have access to private lands. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is a great resource.⠀
⠀
What can you do with the antlers after you find them? Some people use them to make things, such as handles for knives. We sell ours online, and it’s fun to earn a bit of extra cash.⠀
⠀
Have you hunted for antlers before? Care to share any tips?⠀

Showing more cute finds from @simpletreasuresbouti Showing more cute finds from @simpletreasuresboutique at the Legacy Events Center in Farmington. Going on now thru Saturday, March 20. Friday 10-8 and Saturday 10-6.

Please see our previous post for all the details. We’re also sharing more stuff in our stories.

$1 admission. So many cute spring things! You’ll easily find unique Easter basket items, Easter dresses, cute neighbor gifts. I bought fun home decor items. Plus there’s yummy food for purchase.

I went opening day with friends and the event is well attended this year. 👏🏻 Wear your 😷as they are required. Go and have fun!

New parking this time. It’s the street East of the DMV. Follow the signs and staff members who point the way. You still end up parking next to where you need to be, but because the main parking lot is being used for covid vaccine signups, the event parking is adjusted this time, hopefully temporarily.

Questions? This is my FAVORITE boutique! I hope you love it too. ❤️

Who wouldn’t want a cute, delicious present like Who wouldn’t want a cute, delicious present like this? 🖤Gourmet cookies are such a hit, and these are soooo good! We received a variety four-pack to try: chocolate chip with a few kinds of chips, Oreo with huge chunks of cookies, chocolatey chocolate, and a yummy caramel drizzle.

I’ve been careful with the sweets for a while now, but I include splurges. These BIG cookies were worth it. Creamy on the inside, crispy on the outside.

Who bakes them? @butternsugarutah Laura left her retail career during covid and set out to launch her own business. She’s made cookies for 15 years. Presentation is perfect. Taste is perfect. Delivery to Davis County.

We highly recommend. 🖤❤️

I took so MANY photos, so check my stories to see more. And don’t forget to stop for hot, homemade apple fries. I brought them home, and my boys snarfed them up before I could get a pic. Envision crispy outside, dipped in caramel sauce and cream cheese wonderfulness. 🙌🏻
